Revival Cry
Many Christians are seated relaxed, continuing with their daily business as usual. Contrary to their beliefs is the urgency to preach the gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead and cause a complete restoration to the creation (healing of the land). Nevertheless, the church is being called to a place of prayer and desperation where a cry for "Revival" would continue to rise on Earth.
A passage in second Chronicles is very important for us as we pray for Revival and call for the Lord to cause his habitation among us. “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attentive unto the prayer that is made in this place. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there forever: and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually,” (II Chro. 7:13-16).
In the above scripture, the Lord is saying that in the midst of calamity, gloom and sorrow due to draught, economic crises, and diseases, if his people, called by his name (Christians), will: humble themselves, pray, seek his face, and turn from their wicked ways, he (God) will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. In addition to that, the house (Church or land) will be sanctified for the lord’s habitation. His eyes and heart will be in the house continually forever.
It is very easy to memorize this scripture and quote in all our prayer and revival meetings. However, this passage goes beyond intellectual grasp. God, in the passage is calling us to the basics of our faith. Forsaking sin and living before the Lord a life of righteousness, holiness and sanctification. If the church wants revival badly then it must happen on God’s terms. We need to purify or consecrate ourselves and get rid of those sins that easily entice us (Ex. 19:22; Lev. 20:26; Jos. 3:5; II Chro. 29:5; Rom. 12:1; I Thess. 4:3-5; II Tim. 2:20-21; James 4:7-10).
During the Azusa Street Revival, a wind of God’s spirit blow upon America as a result of individuals like William Seymour and his friends giving themselves to prayer and seeking the face of God. The same would be said of the Welsh Revival of 1904-1905. Those who sought the face of God have always found him in fulfillment of his promise, “if you seek me with all your heart, you will find me….” (Jer. 29:13).
The history of recent revivals as is documented by George Otis Jr. of Centennial Group, illuminates the importance of people who are called by the name of God most high (Christians), seeking the face of God. If we humble themselves, turn away from wicked ways, seek the Lord’s face and pray (II Chro. 7:14), the coming of a greater revival, one that will eclipse the Azusa St. Revival a hundred times is inevitable!
Unfortunately, many people understood the passage in II Chro. 7:14 as a prayer to remind God of his promises; but in reality, the passage is a demand for a Godly character and life style. In other words, there needs to be a genuine repentance, turning completely from that which the bible calls evil (wicked), and then intensifying prayers. This kind of life style command and demand restlessness from our part in pursuit of God. In an answer for our weakness before the Lord, we get an energy that enables us in brokenness to say, "I will seek God" and "I will put demand on heaven for release of revival."
As a ministry, we are laboring in prayers and ministering before the Lord in prayers for a continual presence in our midst, conferences and meetings. It’s almost two years since we have been meeting every Friday to pray and sit at the Lord’s feet, and every second Saturday of the month to pray and fast corporately for God’s manifest presence to permanently dwell with us causing his habitation in our hearts, homes, towns, cities and nations. COME LORD JESUS!
